South Sudan, which gained independence from Sudan in 2011, continues to face an unstable situation due to armed conflict. As of 2021, approximately 8.3 million people (over 70% of the total population of 10.75 million) are in need of humanitarian assistance. In June 2020, we began preparations to deliver Carry the Sun units to people living in internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in South Sudan. We overcame various difficulties and challenges, including logistics restrictions caused by the global COVID-19 pandemic and the establishment of distribution criteria to prevent disputes within local communities. After 15 months, we successfully donated 1,000 Carry the Sun units. We have finally received heartwarming messages from the IDP camps! Please take a look at how your kind "light" is being utilized on the ground!
"Children attending elementary school were unable to study at night due to the lack of light, but thanks to Carry the Sun, they can now study for tests even after dark.
For childcare, parents can now quickly and cleanly change their babies' diapers, something they previously had to do in complete darkness."

"In the refugee camp, there are only shared toilets and no streetlights, so it's completely dark, and there can be dangerous creatures like snakes and insects on the way to and in the toilets. However, thanks to Carry the Sun, we are now able to avoid such dangers.
'Light' is a precious form of support that changes our daily lives and continuously sustains us. We are truly grateful to the people of Japan and Landport who sent us Carry the Sun."
