Donating CARRY THE SUN® to Myanmar earthquake victims

Following the major earthquake on March 28, 2025, we urgently released the "Myanmar Earthquake Support Model," which allows customers to choose from three support destinations. Thanks to the overwhelming support from many of you, we have been steadily donating solar lanterns to residents, producers, and those involved in traditional crafts.

【For those in need of light in Mandalay/Sagaing, the epicenter】
On September 6, we entrusted a total of 252 CARRY THE SUN® lanterns: 60 for Sagaing, the epicenter, via Yangon from Mae Sot, and the remainder to another supporter for delivery to internally displaced persons camps in Kayah State from Chiang Mai. Both routes are active conflict zones, so ensuring safety while working will likely take time.

【Voices of joy from the people of Inle Lake, a UNESCO protected area】
On May 4, we distributed lanterns to 95 households in one village in the Inle region of Shan State, prioritizing households with school-aged children.

Voices from the residents:
・Our area has been completely without electricity (as of May 4) and still is. We are so happy to receive these solar lanterns.
・We don't know when the electricity will come back on. I think it will take a considerable amount of time for power to be restored. In the meantime, these lanterns are very helpful to us.
・We have been unable to work due to the disaster. We struggle with food every day, so we couldn't spend money on electricity, and this donation of lanterns was truly appreciated.
・To all the supporters in Japan, thank you very much.
・When this place recovers, we would love for everyone from Japan to visit.


【A beacon of hope in the smiles of resilient artisans】
On May 4 and 5, we visited Mandalay, Meiktila, two surrounding villages, and Amarapura, meeting with artisans, their families, and workshops.
In Amarapura, all the monasteries and pagodas along the road we walked had suffered extensive damage. The blooming Padauk flowers and clear blue sky ironically seemed to highlight the profound sense of oppression.
Some weaving workshops had relocated their looms to less damaged buildings or spaces and resumed operations. As I walked through Amarapura, the clatter of weaving looms resonated, giving me a sense of encouragement. While larger workshops suffered more significant damage, requiring considerable time and expense for repairs, the words of one person, "Our employees' livelihoods depend on this, so we can't give up," left a strong impression on me.
Despite the dire circumstances, everyone was very positive, and their kindness and resilience warmed my heart.

During this visit, we delivered 43 "CARRY THE SUN®" lanterns and conveyed that many people from Japan are supporting them and hope they will continue their craftsmanship.

CARRY THE SUN® Donated to Asia Children's Medical Center in Cambodia

International Medical NGOWe donated CARRY THE SUN to the Asia Children's Medical Center, which was opened in Cambodia by the specified non-profit organization Japan Heart.The Asia Children's Medical Center is a 200-bed, completely free hospital that opened in October 2025 near Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, with the aim of providing treatment for pediatric diseases, primarily advanced medical care, and pediatric care to reduce infant mortality.https://www.japanheart.org/activity/medical/asia-childrens-medical-center.html Prior to the opening ceremony, Landport staff visited the site on October 2nd and handed over 30 CARRY THE SUN to the local staff at the hospital, which was still under construction.Soon after the hospital opened, we received a delightful photo along with a message of thanks from the local staff. At the new hospital, there is a "Movie Day" once a week where hospitalized children can enjoy movies on a big screen. We heard that CARRY THE SUN is being used to create an atmosphere where even small children can feel safe, as the room darkens during screenings. It warms our hearts to see them enjoying movie day as if they were in a movie theater, relaxing with the gentle and warm light of CARRY THE SUN.

Donation of 325 CARRY THE SUN® to Myanmar

The "BUY ONE GIVE ONE®︎" project delivers the same number of lights to the local community as the number purchased by everyone.In October 2025, Landport staff visited Myanmar to deliver 325 CARRY THE SUN lights.Landport has been engaged in support activities to deliver lights to refugee camps for Myanmarese people who have fled to Thailand since 2015, but this was their first actual visit to Myanmar itself. With many people needing light due to frequent power outages, this time we mainly distributed CARRY THE SUN to children in nunneries and orphanages.In Myanmar, there are public schools under the Ministry of Education and寺子屋 schools (temple schools) under the Ministry of Religious Affairs.Poor families who cannot afford the school fees for public schools send their children to寺子屋 schools, which serve as a受け皿 (safety net) for such children.寺子屋 schools are run by monks and nuns and are supported by donations and volunteers.We hope this report will give you a sense of how your kindness is helping in Myanmar. ■October 2●Appamada Nunnery Temple School, Mingaladon Township, Yangon(Approx. 200 children attending from the nunnery and surrounding areas, 18 residing): 20 donated unitsWe received a warm welcome with songs and dances from all the students. They were delighted that the CARRY THE SUN lights made textbooks easier to read in the dim, unlit classrooms.●Chanmyawady Nunnery, Mingaladon Township, Yangon(Approx. 150 children attending from the nunnery, including ethnic minorities, 15 residing): 5 donated unitsNot only the children but also the teachers were very happy to receive CARRY THE SUN. It was very impressive to see everyone's big smiles when the lanterns lit up.■October 3　●Myaing Nunnery Temple Primary and Junior High School, Shwepyithar Township, Yangon　(Low-income area. Approx. 430 students attending, 220 residing): 140 donated unitsChildren in traditional ethnic costumes of Chin, Pa-O, and Bamar welcomed us with songs and dances. The large premises also include a vegetable garden, dormitories, and accommodation for other refugees.They said that everyone would be staying up late tonight because they were so happy to light the lanterns.　■October 4　●St. Mary's Home, Thanlyin-Kyauktan Township, Yangon(Approx. 126 children from various ethnic minorities, including refugees, in an orphanage): 120 donated unitsThis orphanage is run by a Christian church and has extensive fruit orchards and vegetable gardens. They earn cash by selling harvested crops and live a self-sufficient life. ●A-Yone-Thit Orphanage and Monastic Education School, North Okkalapa Township, Yangon(Approx. 40 children in the orphanage): 40 unitsIn this orphanage, established by Canadian volunteers and having a homely atmosphere, many children are dedicated to studying and sports.There was also a boy who had been to Japan as a representative soccer player. Despite the unstable political situation during our visit to Myanmar, the distribution of 325 CARRY THE SUN units was made possible through the cooperation of various local people. "In Myanmar, where power outages are a daily occurrence, we experienced great inconvenience in daily life after sunset and for children's studies. However, thanks to your warm support, we believe that night-time chanting, learning, movement, and personal safety will improve. The brightness of the donated lanterns not only brings light but also serves as a light in the hearts of the children and nuns living in the nunneries, giving them hope. Not only the children's smiles, but especially the very happy expression of the principal of Chanmyawady Nunnery (the nunnery where we planted mangoes with the Global Citizens' Society) when she held the lantern... I hadn't seen such a look in a long time. I don't think I will ever forget it. We are extremely grateful," we received this heartfelt message.We strongly felt the need for light in Myanmar and will continue our CARRY THE SUN support. カンボジアの小学校にCARRY THE SUN®127個を寄贈しました

We donated 127 CARRY THE SUN® solar lanterns to an elementary school in Cambodia.

What is the "Cambodia Solar Lantern Support Project"?Launched in February 2024, this is a social collaboration project between a seminar group from Kanto Gakuin University's Faculty of International Cultural Studies and Buy One Give One®. After realizing that the battery-powered simple lights they had delivered as aid supplies to schools in Kampong Chhnang Province, known for its high poverty rate, were not effective, the seminar students consulted Landport Co., Ltd. This led to the launch of the CARRY THE SUN® Cambodia Support Model. The students themselves promoted and sold the lanterns, and the donated portion was directly delivered to the local area. Thanks to their diligent participation in events, promotional activities via social media, and unified team efforts, 127 CARRY THE SUN® lanterns were delivered to children this February.About Kampong Chhnang ProvinceLocated approximately 100 km north-northwest of Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, Kampong Chhnang Province has a population of about 544,000 and a low population density of 99 people/km². The landscape is characterized by rice paddies and scattered grazing cattle. The main industries are agriculture and fishing, with unglazed earthenware pots, bottles, and braziers being local specialties. These goods were once transported by river, leading to the name "Kampong (port) Chhnang (pot)" for the port where the pots gathered. Among Cambodia's 24 administrative districts, it has the second-highest percentage of impoverished households. Due to chronic malnutrition, 35.6% of children under five are underweight, 42.8% suffer from chronic malnutrition, one in three children under five is significantly below standard weight, and one in four is stunted.Local Report from September, Approximately Six Months After Lantern DeliveryKor Pau Primary School: A small school appearing between rice paddies and palm trees, 40 minutes by car on an unpaved road from the national highway.・Increased study time at home led to improved academic performance.・Teachers reported that the lanterns act as a "switch for the mind and heart" when children study.・A 3rd-grade girl, with improved grades, dreams of becoming a doctor in the future.・Demonstrated daily charging methods by placing the CARRY THE SUN® on a high tree stump.・Can attend to babies' needs like diapers and milk when they wake up at night.・Reported to be useful for family gatherings.Ondongreach Primary School: A school in an upstream village of Tonlé Sap Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia.・Initially didn't understand it, but using it proficiently fostered confidence and a sense of responsibility.・Teachers reported that it not only improves academic performance but also nurtures self-reliance.・A 6th-grade girl said, "On sunny days, it's fun to charge, and sometimes I just watch it."・Boys said they want to play soccer with the Japanese students when they visit next time.We continue to have high hopes for the significance and effectiveness of directly delivering and interacting with aid recipients, rather than just sending supplies. The success of this industry-academia collaboration project has been recognized both on and off campus, and its continuation has been decided.
