About Kampong Chhnang Province
Located about 100km north-northwest of Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia, Kampong Chhnang Province has a population of approximately 544,000 and a low population density of 99 people/km², with a landscape dotted with rice paddies and grazing cattle.
Its main industries are agriculture and fishing, and its specialties include unglazed clay pots, jars, and charcoal stoves.
It is said that these products were once transported by river, and the port where the clay pots gathered was named "Kampong (port) Chhnang (pot)."
Among the 24 administrative districts nationwide, this region has the second-highest proportion of impoverished households. Due to chronic malnutrition, the proportion of underweight children under five is 35.6%, and chronically malnourished children is 42.8%. One in three children under five is significantly below the standard weight, and one in four is stunted.
Children walk about 3km to school on unpaved roads without streetlights. During a visit in February 2024, about 20% of students were not wearing shoes, and about 10% were not wearing uniforms.
In this region, not only water but also electricity is scarce. The vice-mayor expressed alarm, stating that the environment surrounding children is deteriorating year by year, with increased time spent at home while parents are at work, and risks such as contact with cattle or vehicles during their commute.
The solar lantern project by students from Kanto Gakuin University aims to provide children at Koropau Primary School with a safe and long-lasting light source.
The CARRY THE SUN® lanterns distributed through the Buy One Give One® mechanism will bring bright smiles to the children's faces.

Student comments
After our seminar trip to Cambodia in February 2024, we partnered with Landport Inc. to launch the "Cambodia Solar Lantern Support Project." Through this project, we deliver the same number of solar lanterns purchased for support to elementary schools in impoverished areas.
During our camp in February 2025, thanks to your support and cooperation, we were able to deliver 127 Carry the Sun lanterns.
We remember how the children, initially hesitant, gradually started smiling as they held the lights.
This year, with the theme "Spreading a global circle of light in Japan," we aim to raise awareness of Buy One Give One® and this project, and while deepening our interaction with the local community, we will consider the forms of support that are truly needed.
"For my own sake, for someone else's." We believe that an abundance of smiles and happiness will fill the world with every light, leading to a brighter future. We will continue our activities and ask for your continued support!

How to Use CARRY THE SUN®
Pull the top and bottom straps to form a cube.
When folding, gently press down from the top.
Charging method
Solar insolation increases with sunrise and peaks around noon.
We recommend charging the device over several days, using the times indicated on the right as a guideline.
Additionally, even during optimal hours, charging may take longer depending on the season and weather (if it's not clear skies).
Daylight hours and solar insolation are longer and higher in spring/summer than in autumn/winter. The amount of charge also depends on the angle at which direct sunlight hits. Please try to ensure the sunlight hits the panel as directly as possible. If stored after charging, approximately 60% of the charge will remain after one year, but regularly expose it to sunlight for charging as a checkup.
The sun is constantly moving, so please ensure the solar panel is not in the shade. Even on a clear day, sunlight reflects off window glass, so charging through a window will take a long time. It takes approximately 7-9 hours of direct sunlight to charge from zero to full. *Please do not leave or charge in high-temperature locations such as inside a car. *Please turn off the light when charging.
